Privacy Policy — AfriMap Explorer
Last updated: 10 July 2026
AfriMap Explorer ("the app", "we") is an educational app for discovering Africa. We care about your privacy. This policy explains what data is processed, why, and with whom.
1. Data we process
On your device (stored locally, not sent)
- Progress: quiz results, explored countries, favorites, badges, day streak, weak items.
- Preferences: theme, language, sounds and vibrations.
This data stays on your device and is deleted if you uninstall the app or clear its data.
Sent to our server (for the online leaderboard)
- A random device identifier, generated by the app and not linked to your identity.
- A nickname (optional, chosen by you).
- Your scores.
No email address, account, or real name is required. This data is used only to display the players' leaderboard.
2. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The app shows ads through Google AdMob. For this purpose, Google's SDK may collect and process:
- your device's advertising ID;
- usage and interaction data, along with technical information (device type, approximate location derived from the IP address).
This data is used to deliver and measure ads (including, where applicable, personalized ads). Google's processing is governed by its own policies:
- Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- How Google uses information / ads: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads
You can reset or opt out of ad personalization in your Android settings: Settings → Google → Ads.
3. Third-party services
- Google AdMob — ad delivery (see §2).
- Supabase — hosting of the leaderboard and reference data (countries, regions, languages).
- Flag images — loaded from a public source; like any web request, this exposes your IP address to the image host.
4. Notifications
An optional daily reminder is handled locally on your device. No data is sent for this feature. You can disable it at any time in the app settings.
5. Sharing
We do not sell your data. It is shared only with the providers listed above, solely to operate the service (leaderboard, advertising, hosting).
6. Retention
- Local data: until you uninstall the app or clear its data.
- Leaderboard: until you request its deletion (see Contact).
7. Children
The app is educational and intended for a general audience. It does not require any personally identifying information. If you believe a child has provided us with data, contact us for its removal.
8. Your rights
Under the GDPR and equivalent laws, you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, and portability. Contact us to exercise them.
9. Security
Communications with our servers use encrypted connections (HTTPS). As no system is completely secure, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes
This policy may change. The date at the top of the page reflects the latest update.
